|My mom is an avid watcher of the Dr. Oz show. So, after I read what Dr. Mehmet Oz had to say about organic foods, I told my mom. Her response may surprise you.
Dr. Oz recently talked about a new study on organic foods in a Time magazine interview. The study had declared that organic produce is no more nutritious than conventional produce. So, Dr. Oz's point was "Why bother with organic?" Those touting organic may be "elite." Organic is "not very democratic." It is for the "1%." So why not do what 99% of all other Americans do and buy conventional? "You don't need to eat like the 1% to eat healthy."
So here's what my 90-year-old mom had to say in her exact words: "Who in the hell wants to eat pesticides? How could he [Dr. Oz] say something like that, it just doesn't make sense.... If they put on sprays [pesticides] there's no way it can be as good as the non-spray."
Folks, I can assure you that my parents are NOT elitists when it comes to food. In fact, their transition has come about over time and to their good advantage. They both have sound minds in their 90s. They are dollar conscious, very much so. But they understand that when it comes to food, it's much better to throw in a bit extra to get cleaner food NOW than pay the price of cancer, Parkinson's disease, or some other chemical-induced tragedy.
I don't like name calling, as those in conventional medicine have called unconventional doctors a tremendous number of horrible names. However, I do consider the fools that published that report to be plain "idiots." They focused on a few narrow nutrients. And I do agree, it's quite likely that those they chose will be comparable in organic vs. conventional.
Could you detect a deadly poison in a healthy-looking meal?

In the world of Dr. Oz, you can forget that its nutritional mineral content will be lower than organic. And forget that its toxic mineral content may be higher. Forget that virtually 100% of all umbilical cord blood in this country is laced with dangerous chemicals. Let's all forget the downside and focus only on the good side.
I don't have a beef with Dr. Oz. In fact, I'd love to be on his show. In truth, I am saddened FOR HIM that he has greatly tarnished his credibility by taking up the side of the chemical industry. Now, anything he says will be held in suspect, even by his fan, my mother, who at 90 says, "He doesn't make sense."
With that said, you might be on a fixed income and not be able to afford eating all organic produce. If you're in that situation, and if eating organic means you simply won't be able to afford fresh living veggies, then please eat conventional produce. At least you will be getting living food with reasonable "living" nutrition. I'd much rather you go there than turn to processed trash that not only has the same toxins as conventionally grown food, but also has almost zero nutrition.
