Indian spice revs up your memory
If you have memory problems, or a risk of Alzheimer’s, I’ve mentioned several nutrients that might help you. Among them are niacinamide and green tea. Now there’s new research that another very popular nutrient improves memory as well.
In this study, researchers gave mice 3-30 mg/kg of curcumin. The nutrient “salvaged” expression of key memory pathways in the hippocampus. This is a site in the brain for long-term memory. The researchers found that the nutrient significantly enhanced memory.
Curcumin is one of my favorite nutrients. It is the principal compound of the popular Indian spice turmeric. It gives turmeric its yellow color.
You can find high-quality supplements at any health food store. The dosage used in this study is a good range. It would translate to 150-2000 mg per day for an average adult. I usually recommend taking 500 mg two to three times a day as a preventive. If you’re suffering from any memory problems, consider taking the full 2,000 mg daily. You can also use turmeric in your food as much as you want.

Curcumin works on memory because it is a powerful bioflavonoid. It protects against inflammation, cancer, heart disease, and now memory. Other bioflavonoids, such as green tea and Alginol, also enhance memory and protect your brain.
