Take this three-nutrient cocktail to stop macular degeneration
I continue to hear a lot from people with macular degeneration. There are lots of supplements on the market for it. Some work very well. Some don't. Now two studies say a three-nutrient cocktail can help those with macular degeneration.
In the first study, researchers found statistically significant improvements in central visual field (the part of your eye you read with) and visual acuity (the clarity or sharpness of your vision). They also found improvements in fundus alterations. The fundus is the part of your eye where the optic nerve and vessels enter. It's vital for the health of your eye.
The treatment they used? It was a combination of omega-3 fatty acids, coenzyme Q10, and acetyl-L-carnitine. The treatment usually took three to six months to show results. And the earlier the patients started taking the nutrients, the better the results.
In another study, researchers found similar results. The authors concluded that this is the only combination of ingredients that "showed clinically proven efficacy."

I agree that nutrients are synergistic. Taking them together will often bring about better results than taking one by itself.
If you have macular degeneration, please be sure that you're getting plenty of omega-3 in your diet. I recommend a high-quality marine-oil supplement. Also make sure that you take at least 50 mg of CoQ10 daily and 100 mg of acetyl-L-carnitine per day.
