In the study, researchers followed 11,897 men and women. They found that if you are in the highest quintile of total fiber intake from food, you'll have superior lung function. That means you'll be able to exhale more total air volume and more quickly.

Furthermore, if you are in the highest total fiber group, your risk of COPD drops by 15%. And if the fiber is mostly fruit, it drops by a whopping 38%. Fruit is loaded with soluble fiber and has the highest risk reduction of the major fibers.
