Pancreatic cancer is one of the most difficult cancers to cure. It's one form of cancer you definitely don't want to get. And new research shows three different nutrients can substantially cut your risk. What's more, if you're a smoker, these nutrients can do even more to protect you.

Not only can these nutrients lower your risk of pancreatic cancer, they can lower your overall risk as well.

In this study, German researchers followed participants from many different ethnic groups. The eight-year study compared the cancer protection from three different flavanols (a type of plant polyphenols).

The researchers found that all three of the flavanols can slash your cancer risk. In fact, they slashed the risk for pancreatic cancer by 25%. If you are a smoker, the reduction is even more pronounced. You can cut it by more than 59%. This was the first study to examine the specific classes of flavanols and their impact on pancreatic cancer risk reduction.

The researchers studied the flavanols quercetin, kaempferol, and myricetin. You'll find quercetin in onions and apples, kaempferol in spinach and cabbage, and myricetin in red onions and berries. Of the three, kaempferol provided the largest amount of risk reduction - 22% - across all participants.

Obviously, eating all three will give you even more protection. That's why these are some of my favorite and most recommended foods. I try to eat an onion and spinach in my salad every day. And it's logical to think that if they slash the risk of pancreatic cancer, they will reduce your risk for other cancers as well.

You won't find these wonderful compounds in synthetic, processed, manmade petrochemicals. You can find natural quercetin and myricetin in supplement form on the Internet and in many health food stores. But kaempferol is harder to find. So eat more of these foods to make sure you get all of the flavanols. And take additional quercetin and myricetin to increase your protection.
