Urinary incontinence is common even in women who have not given birth

Volume 13    |   Issue 154

When we think of urinary incontinence in women, we tend to categorize it as one of the less-miraculous gifts of pregnancy and childbirth. While it’s true that many women do suffer from urinary incontinence after giving birth, we can’t assume that childbirth is the sole cause of this condition. Doing so often causes us to overlook an entire portion of the population. The truth is that 20% of women over 45 who have never given birth still experience urinary incontinence. Fortunately, there’s help for all of these women.

Researchers at the University of Gothenburg recognized that this segment of the population is often forgotten when it comes to both research on the condition and the provision of treatment. So they conducted a study of approximately 9,200 women between the ages of 25 and 64. They wanted to determine the prevalence of urinary incontinence in general among women who have never given birth as well as among different subsets of this population.

As you might expect, rates of incontinence increased with age as well as with BMI. But even among young women (ages 25 to 35) with BMIs no greater than 25, a full 10% still suffer from urinary incontinence. For older (ages 55 to 64) overweight women (BMIs greater than 35), the majority were dealing with this condition.

The plight of the younger women is of particular concern because many of these women will go on to bear children at some point. Because they’re already suffering from urinary incontinence, the problem is likely to worsen significantly after they give birth.

As a high BMI was closely linked to incontinence risk, losing weight may help minimize the problem or help you avoid it altogether if you aren’t yet suffering from this condition. However, it likely won’t be enough to help you resolve the problem altogether.

Fortunately, I can recommend a great product to help you handle incontinence woes: Advanced Bladder Support. It contains a number of nutrients and botanical ingredients that will help your bladder function at its best. It’s particularly beneficial in promoting a healthy inflammatory response, helping to quench the sensations that can contribute to urge incontinence. Whether you’ve never had children or you’ve borne half a dozen, if you suffer from urinary incontinence, this product may be able to provide you with some relief.

Yours for better health,
