Why men should avoid prostate cancer screening
Last week, I showed you how the vast majority of cancer screenings offered today are worthless — and in many cases, dangerous. One of the screening tests I mentioned was the PSA test. Now another report has come out confirming what I said.
The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force, the group that told women in their 40s that they don’t need mammograms, has decided that men shouldn’t get prostate cancer screening. In fact, they recommended a “D” rating for the value of the PSA test. That means that there is a moderate or high certainty that the test has no net benefit.
Furthermore, their report adds that PSA testing actually can cause “harms related to subsequent evaluation and treatment.” The problem is that many of the cancers are small and slow- growing. They’ll never pose a risk to the patient. Other cancers might simply self-destruct. And, conventional treatment does more harm than good.
