Why men must take this nutrient
before their prostate swells
There are times when a man needs to take action before a problem develops. And one of the problems that many of us will face as we get older has to do with our prostates. They can get too large (called benign prostatic hypertrophy) and end up being a big aggravation that sometimes needs surgery. They also can end up turning cancerous and be an even bigger aggravation. These problems are all too common. Now some research is showing that the time to do something about these problems is before you have them. And one of the most effective ways to do that is not with a drug or a procedure. It's with a nutrient.

Researchers looked at 40 men with enlarged prostates. All of them were free of prostate cancer. They gave some of them the nutrient lycopene at a dose of 15 mg per day. The other men took a placebo capsule. Lycopene, as you may know, is found in tomatoes and in many vegetables and fruits.

Before the beginning of the study, the researchers measured the men's PSA levels. They also used ultrasound to measure the size of their prostates. At the end of six months, they re-measured the PSA and prostate size. Here's what they found.

The PSA levels did not change in the placebo group, but decreased in the lycopene group. Likewise, the size of the prostate increased in the placebo group, but remained the same in the lycopene group. In terms of symptoms from enlarged prostate, both showed some improvement, but the lycopene group had a much greater level of improvement. The authors stated it very clearly, "In conclusion, lycopene inhibited the progression of benign prostatic hypertrophy."

There are two take away messages from this study. One is that a man should not wait for problems. He should start protecting his prostate before it starts to enlarge, not after he is having symptoms. This means starting around his 50th birthday. Why? Notice that although the lycopene prevented the prostate from enlarging, it did not shrink it. Most prostate remedies are excellent at preventing the swelling, but poor at reversing it.

Second, men who have enlarged prostates may end up having more problems than just that. They are at an increased risk for developing prostate cancer. So preventing a swollen prostate is also a good way to prevent prostate cancer. This is why the authors also stated that, "Lycopene is a promising nutritional component for the prevention of prostate cancer."

I recommend that every man over the age of 50 start taking one tablet of my Advanced Prostate Formula twice a day. Two tablets provide 20 mg of lycopene — more than enough to prevent the prostate from ever swelling. The formula also has many other nutrients to support prostate health.
